it's a little thing
On our Monday softball team we have a trophy we award to the player of the game. Most people award it to someone who plays really well, a lot of the times somebody who hit a home run or something.
I haven't won it yet this season even though I've had some games where I think I deserved it, but because I didn't get a home run I was passed by someone else.
At this point in the season one of our team co-captains recently asked "who hasn't won the trophy yet?", insinuating that somebody who hasn't won it, should win it. I think I'm the only one who hasn't. So does this mean I win it by default on a week I don't really "deserve" it?
(It won't be next week, my wife won it last night - deservedly so - and it seems to be frowned upon for spouses to award it to each other for whatever reason.)
I'd rather not win it because I haven't won it before. I'd rather win it because I played a really good game. That probably won't happen now.
It's a really stupid thing, the trophy doesn't really mean anything. And yet...
